October 2022 Clinical Strategy Meeting Focuses on Primary Care/Specialist Collaboration

CTC-RI’s October Clinical Strategy Committee meeting provided an engaging discussion around Primary Care/Specialist Collaboration, noting the critical role of payers in this process. The meeting highlighted the ongoing work of Lifespan and Integra/Care New England to improve coordination between primary care and specialist through use of eConsults and enhanced referrals to improve access and reduce low-value referrals.  

Pano Yeracaris, MD, MPH provided a program overview while Paul Larson, MD, MBA, Chief of Primary Care, Lifespan Physician Group, Brian Kwetkowski, DO, Integra, and Jennifer Jarbeau, MD, Cardiology, Brigham & Women's Center talked about respective successes and challenges in implementation of eConsults. Alicia Berkemeyer, Executive Vice President, Chief Health Management Officer at Arkansas BCBS talked about the AR program, including tips for engagement of the business community. Al Charbonneau, Executive Director, Rhode Island Business Group on Health offered his insight into engaging RI-based employers and those who are self-insured.
