Customer Experience Survey Update: CAHPS

Each year, CTC, together with the Rhode Island Quality Institute (RIQI), implement a process to ask patients to report on and evaluate their experiences with primary care.   RIQI contracts with Data Stat as the approved external vender to administer the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey.  Primary care practices (PCMH Kids and Adult practices in Transition, PY1 and PY2) will want to review the CAHPS implementation timeline  as there are important deliverables required over a short time frame.  Any questions on the process and/or timeline can be directed to Marie Sarrasin, RIQI Project Manager: Msarrasin@RIQI.org  401 276 9141 x 239.  

This year the Data and Evaluation Committee has approved use of the CAHPS version 3 for Adults and Children.  We are anticipating that by using CAHPS Version 3, there will be a greater patient response rate as the number of questions patients are asked to respond to has been reduced by 50%. 

Practices applying for NCQA PCMH recognition will be able to score themselves as a “yes” on the factor related to using an approved external vender for obtaining customer experience data.
